Scholarship

  • Scholarship is Alive and Well in MSU Greek Life!

Academics are the main focus of college life, and Greek students recognize that the purpose of attending school is to receive a quality education.  The sororities and fraternities at Mississippi State University have set high standards of scholastic achievement to reflect the emphasis.  Each Greek chapter has set their own Scholarship standards, and a minimum GPA is often required before pledging or initiation.

To achieve these academic standards, many programs have been put in place, whether it's within the entire Greek community or each individual chapter.  Such programs include personal tutoring help, accountability partners, study hall, incentive programs, and major madness.  Major madness is where each student matches up with others within their major and learns about classes and instructors.

Chapter involvement in honorary organizations is phenomenal in the Greek community, with members participating in societies such as Mortar Board, Gamma Beta Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key, and Phi Kappa Phi.  Furthermore, because the Greek system puts such emphasis on scholastics, it has established its own honorary group, Order of Omega, which recognizes outstanding Greek men and women.
